This story moves along at a very fast pace and is wonderfully romantic. The characters are lively and the plot is refreshing. You can't help but love this book.

Texas Caves (Louise Lindsey Merrick Natural Environment Series, No 31)
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (September, 1999)
Authors: Blair Pittman and Francis Edward Abernethy
Average review score:

Underground Texas
The stunning beauty of Texas caves can be seen in the book's many photographs (both color and black & white). The first part of the book gives a brief overview of the geology of Texas caves and cave biology. It provides descriptions of the seven largest "show caves" in the state (including directions, length of tour, camping, facilities, nearby motels, etc). State speleological parks which offer wild cave tours (through undeveloped caves) are also mentioned. The second part of the book includes chapters contributed by well-known Texas cavers. As a Texas caver myself, I was really happy to see a section on "Guide to Caving Etiquette," which can be useful to any reader who wants to know more about cave safety, Texas caving organizations, and establishing landowner relations. Another bonus is a chapter that includes tips for cave photography. This is a good companion book to "The Caves and Karst of Texas" which was put out by the National Speleological Society (1994).

Wonderful index
This index is so much easier to use than the 1880 soundex. Included in this book are all households in the 1880 census.....even households without children under 10. They have been concise and their efforts to effectively index the 1880 Texas census are superb!

He would never give up...

Mariah Palmer had lived on the Brazos River all her life. It was her land, her home and one day she would see it free from Mexico forever. And if Santa Anna thought that his henchman, Matthew Cade, would take it from her, he was sadly mistaken. She would never give in to the debonair soldier of fortune who tried to charm and cajole her with his suave, good looks and expensive gifts. Instead, she would seduce him with soft kisses, and the promise of her virtue. And she knew that when she was through with the traitorous Mr Cade he would grant her every wish...

She would never give in...

Matthew Cade always accomplished his missions, no matter how dangerous or difficult. But no one had warned him that this time the one obstacle to his sucess was a violet-eyed beauty with sun-red hair that shone like flames....

Texas Constables: A Frontier Heritage
Published in Hardcover by Texas Tech University Press (November, 1999)
Author: Allen G. Hatley
Average review score:

A terrific, specialized history of Texas law enforcement.
Texas Constables: A Frontier Heritage is a compelling history of a the Texas Constable, a branch of law enforcement quite distinct from the better known Texas Rangers, U.S. Marshals, and even the town marshals that dominate the legends and lore of Texas law enforcement. From the establishment of the Texas Republic to its transformation to being the Lone Star State, down to the present day, Texas Constables offers a compendium of facts, personalities and events that will prove deeply engaging for both the history and the western history buff. For example, the cattle thief turned Texas constable who killed infamous outlaw John Wesley Harding in 1895 -- only to be later gunned down himself by a United States Marshall. Texas Constables is a welcome and valued addition to the annals of Western Frontier history in general, and the history of Texas law enforcement in particular.

Texas Cooking: It's A Whole Other Cuisine!
Published in Hardcover by Dockery House Publishing (01 November, 2001)
Author: Texas Travel Industry Association
Average review score:

Good recipes, great photos
Lots of Texas-themed food here, and recipes from famous people and restaurants. Some are really gourmet, others are stuff anyone could make, like your basic Texas bbq. Even though it's mostly a cookbook, I thought the best part was all the photos of Texas scenery. Very nice.
